Haven Care

This was a fun personal project about veterinary software. Co-designed with Nik Miclette

I focused on developing the UI Design language as well as creating the Calendar screen

Problem and goal

September - October 2019

Veterinarian software hasn’t changed much since the late 1990’s. As other software areas keep evolving, this specific one has remain static. Now that user experience has become a standard practice in product design, we wanted to explore that potential of redesigning an archaic experience such as this.

We focused to deliver a desktop application that focuses on improving the experience for both novice and experienced veterinarian stuff.

  • Reduce onboarding and training by using intuitive layouts, user friendly interactions and predictable flows.

  • Improve user journeys through user insights and research

  • Deliver a design language and system that promotes feelings of calmness and organization

  • Persona 1

    Veronica | 57 | Phoenix AZ | Staff manager

Veronica was born and raise in Cleveland, Ohio. She grew up visiting the zoo often as her dad was a zookeeper. Growing up around animals gave her a deep appreciation for them. This eventually led into a career running a veterinarian hospital in Phoenix, AZ. In her free time she enjoys walks through woods and cooking for her family.

    Frustrations

    • Technology had never interested her much, but her work make it a necessity.

    • Finds it hard to follow instructional videos online

    • Is overwhelmed by too many options

    Goals

    • Keep her nurses and veterinarians organized in their day to day

    • Color code her appointments

    • Avoid hiring software tutors for her employees

  • Persona 2

    Darren | 28 | Seattle, WA | Veterinary nurse

Darren grew up on a farm out in Carnation, WA with 3 older brothers. When he wasn’t out exploring the woods with his brothers, he would help his mother on the farm. One of Darren’s best memories growing up was helping his dad take care of the sheep dogs. This nurturing nature led him to attend a veterinary school where he specialized in canine oral care. After graduation he accepted a job at a veterinary clinic in Seattle, WA

    Frustrations

    • Hates calling customer support for help with software

    • Annoyed by simple tasks that are made difficult

    Goals

    • Persuade the clinic to invest in newer , better software

    • Find more efficient reporting ways

    • Keep assigned tasks organized
